Adding experience to DB unit should improve Buffalo’s odds in 2021.
Buffalo will welcome incoming transfer Madison Cone to the program after spending four years as a safety for the Wisconsin Badger defense.
Cone’s going to be a grad transfer that didn’t have a ton of playing time at Wisconsin, but played as both a corner and nickel safety for the team. He’s an Academic All-Big Ten guy with a degree in community and nonprofit leadership, so he seems like a positive influence to have around if nothing else. Football-wise, Cone played in 33 games, started twice, and has a career 27 tackles (0.5 TFL), 2 INT, and 2 PBU.
This offseason, Buffalo’s defense has lost three starters: All-MAC DE Malcolm Koonce (NFL Draft), CB Roy Baker (transfer to Eastern Kentucky), and LB Tyree Thompson (NFL Draft). I don’t doubt that Buffalo’s can’t make up the talent lost with its developed players that have come up through the system, but this is an addition worth keeping tabs on.
